High School College Credit Policy

Purpose

To provide high-achieving high school students the opportunity to earn college credit prior to high school graduation through dual credit or concurrent enrollment.

This policy outlines eligibility, admission requirements, and the awarding of credit.

Policy Statement

Freedom College of Excellence encourages academic acceleration. Qualified high school students may enroll in college-level courses that count toward both their high school diploma and a college degree (Dual Credit) or for college credit only (Concurrent Enrollment).

1. Eligibility Requirements

High school students must meet the following criteria to participate:

  • Be classified as a high school junior or senior.
  • Have a minimum overall high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemption or readiness standards in Reading, Writing, and Math.
  • Obtain written permission from their high school principal or counselor and a parent/guardian.

2. Scholarship Information

Accelerate Scholarship: Eligible dual credit students receive a significantly reduced tuition rate ($50 per credit hour) and waived general fees.

3. Admission & Enrollment Process

  • Submit the "Dual Credit Admission Application" (no fee required).
  • Submit an official high school transcript.
  • Submit TSI assessment scores or proof of exemption.
  • Register for courses in consultation with a Freedom College academic advisor.

4. Course Delivery

Courses may be delivered:

  • On the Freedom College campus.
  • Online via our Learning Management System.
  • At the high school campus (if taught by credentialed Freedom College faculty).

5. Credit Awarding

Credits earned are recorded on an official Freedom College transcript. These credits are fully transferable to most public colleges and universities in the state.
