International Admissions

Purpose

To establish procedures for the admission of international students in compliance with federal regulations enforced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

Policy Statement

Freedom College of Excellence welcomes students from around the world. This policy ensures balanced compliance with immigration laws while fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.

1. General Admission Policy

International applicants are defined as non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents who require an F-1 student visa to study in the United States. They must meet the same academic standards as domestic students, plus specific requirements regarding English proficiency and financial solvency.

2. Form I-20 Issuance

An I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) will be issued only after:

  • The student has been officially accepted into a degree program.
  • The student has submitted financial documentation (bank statements, affidavits of support) proving funds to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses for one academic year.
  • A copy of the student's valid passport is on file.

3. English Proficiency

Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate proficiency via:

  • TOEFL iBT (minimum score: 80)
  • IELTS (minimum band score: 6.5)
  • Completion of an accredited English Language Program or degree from an English-speaking institution.

4. SEVIS Record Transfer

Students transferring from another U.S. institution must complete the "Transfer-In Form" and request the release of their SEVIS record to Freedom College.

Important: Acceptance of transfer credits is a separate academic process from the immigration transfer of the SEVIS record.

5. Student Responsibilities

International students must:

  • Maintain full-time enrollment status (12 credits undergrad / 9 credits grad) each semester.
  • Keep their passport and I-20 valid at all times.
  • Report any change of address to the DSO within 10 days.
